PLANTING

We have the scale, capacity, and logistics support to complete the most challenging planting jobs in New Zealand. Our winter planting team travels throughout the country comprising of our own inhouse plotters, mechanics, chefs, ATV’s and mobile cooking facilities. In 2022 we planted over 4 million trees, and we are in the process of scaling up this year to accommodate the increased demand for carbon farming.

Our Northland based team also have experience in establishing avocado orchards, pruning, and picking.

THINNING

Manual Thinning

Our manual thinning team is based in Northland. We have an inhouse trainer, quality control and auditing to insure we deliver professional results. The investment in training and equipment in our thinning operation gives us the capacity to complete any job on time. At FNR we take the Health & Safety of our staff seriously. We have a ‘Safety First’ approach to work and ongoing commitment with Safetree to ensure everyone gets home safe to their family.

Mechanised Thinning

At Far North Forestry we are constantly looking for technological innovations to increase production and improve and Health & Safety in the forest. Investment in our Mechanised Thinning operation is a key part of providing industry leading operational efficiencies and reducing the risk of physical harm in the forest.

Although large scale commercial application of Mechanised Thinning to waste has been limited in New Zealand our development program looks to expand this technology with further investment, increased productivity and returns to forest managers.

SPRAYING

Investment in site preparation and protecting young trees with manual release spraying can result in significantly more value when you harvest. Our manual release spray team can pre plant and post plant spot sprat. We have qualified Growsafe chemical mixers and handlers to ensure the best outcome for any project with minimum environmental impact.

We can assist with all aspects of manual release spraying, from advice on spray plans, prescription and risk management to transport, chemical disposal and handling.

PRUNING

Pruning helps to increase the amount of knot free timber to maximise the most value from your final tree crop. We can give advice and support in developing a pruning plan to maximise your return for your final crop trees. Our team has the resources, equipment, and training to complete your job in a safe and effective manner.

FNR Forestry provides selected manual pruning services to the forestry and the horticulture sector.

FIRE FIGHTING

Climate change and the hot dry summers in Northland create the perfect conditions for vegetation and forest fires with the potential to cause harm to people and property. Rural fire fighting has unique challenges that require specialists in order to operate safely and effectively.

We have a well-trained team of experienced firefighters registered with FENZ (Fire and Emergency New Zealand). Far North Forestry has played a significant role in rural fire fighting in Northland over the years and committed ongoing support to the local community in this area.
